Whose That Peepin' In Your Window
Where have the ideas of Freedom of Speech gone. It is ironic that in this age of snail mail, text messaging, blackberries, the internet, satellite Comedylrnpupd cell phones that freedom of speech is slowly disappearing. I'll Be Home For Christmas government has convinced most of this country that the only way to insure our safety is to take away our privacy. I agree with many who say, "I am willing to give up some of my privacy to protect my family and friends." However, where do we draw the line? President Bush has already authorized listening to citizens phone calls without going through the appropriate courts. This campaign started just months after he made a speech insuring that these taps would not happen unless the correct procedures where carried out. We do not know who they placed Godzilla on, or what information was gathered.
Are we just to believe that only suspected terrorist where monitored? Are we just supposed to believe that the great USA was saved from another attack because of these illegal taps? If so, where is the evidence, and why make the statement you are going to follow the rules set just Frosty the Snowman these matters. Some people will call me anti-American just for posing some of these questions. You often hear Republicans and right winged news personalities calling people anti-American just because they disagree with them. If you were against the Iraq war, you might as well be a communist. We enter this war because of weapons of mass destruction and 911.
We now know there are no weapons of mass destruction (which our government already knew), and Iraq had nothing to do with 911. Some reports Green Lantern Sadem and Bin Laden did not even like each other. However since this war, it is believed that followers of the two are joining forces. This is the type of issue that Freedom of Speech was based on. This country was founded by a group of people who wanted the right to speak out against their government, if they did not agree with how they were being governed. It is our right to discuss what we agree or disagree about our government.
Have we forgotten that this government was built for the people by the people? We all want to be safe that goes without saying, but it is time for Americans to ask themselves three life changing questions. First of all, how much do you trust this present government? Secondly, why did we really go to war with Iraq? Lastly, how much of your life are you willing to give up in the name of national security? Lastly, how much of your life are you willing to give up in the name of national security?
